The Indian International cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin was born on the 17th of September in 1986. Ashwin was born in a Hindu Brahmin family in West Mambalam in Chennai. Ashwin finished his schooling in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan and St.Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School. He also completed his Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology in SSN Engineering College.
It is no doubt that Ashwin choose the cricket field as his career as his father Ravichandran was also a cricketer in Tamil Nadu. Ashwin played his ODi debut on the 6th of June in 2010 against the match against Sri Lanka. In his first match he scored 38 runs. In the same month he was selected in the squad to represent India to play the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Ashwin played his first debut T20 match against Andhra Pradesh on the 12th of June in 2010. He was a part of Chennai Super Kings. In 2010 Champions League Twenty20, Ashwin was the highest wicket taker, with 13 wickets in the tournament. He was awarded as the “Player of the Tournament” and also won the Golden Wicket.
In the IPL 2011 auction on the 5th and 6th of January 2011, Ashwin was retained for Chennai Super Kings with an amount of US$80. He played very well in the final innings and dismissed Chris Gayle at the very start of the game. With his brilliant bowling he also took Chennai Super Kings to victory winning the IPL cup in 2011.
He played his first World cup debut match against West Indies on the 20th of March in 2011. He shared the field with well experienced players like Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla. He bowled well with stats of 10-0-41-2 in that match. His second match in world cup was against Australia at Ahmedabad. In that match his bowling stats showed 10-1-52-2.
Ashwin played his test debut on the 6th of November in the year 2011. He played a match against West Indies in that match. He earned his debut test cap from Sachin Tendulkar. His bowled well in the test match and his bowling figures were 27-4-81-3 in the 1st innings and 21.3-5-47-6 in the 2nd innings. He was awarded the “Man of the series“for his marvelous performance with both bat and ball in the innings. He was awarded “Dilip Sardesai” for becoming “Man of series” in his test debut and was also given a cheque of 5 lakhs. In the third test match Ashwin scored his first International maiden century.
He also played against Australia in the three test series out of four test series in 2011-2012. He took 9 wickets on an average of 62.77. In 2012 he played against New Zealand and took 18 wickets at an average of 13.11 in two test matches. Thus for his brilliant performance he got “Man of the Series” award.
In 2013, for the Border – Gavaskar Trophy, he played his first match in his home town Chennai. In the first test match in Chepauk test he took 7 wickets and it was his career best. In the second innings he took 5 wickets. He again took 5 wickets in the second innings in Hyderabad. In the last test match in Delhi again he took 5 wickets and thus completed his fourth five wicket haul series. Thus in the series he took a total of 29 wickets and received the “Man of the Series” award. He also became the 3rd Indian Off-spinner to take 25 plus wickets in a series after Harbhajan Singh (32) and EAS Prasanna (26).
Ashwin is a part of Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 IPL. On the 10th of April in 2013, he bowled against Kings XI Punjab an took 1 wicket in that match. On the 13th of April in 2013, he again took a wicket against RCB. On the 18th of April he took two wickets against Delhi Daredevils. He also took two wickets in the next matches against Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers. He took one wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 25th of April and on the 2nd of May 2013 he took 1 wicket against Kings XI Punjab.
Ashwin is a tall offspinner who played Sudoku ball and a finger – flicked tennis ball leg break in the streets of Chennai in his childhood. He married Preethi Narayanan on the 13th of November in 2011. It is also known that Prithi was Ashwin’s childhood friend. Ashwin is best known for his carom ball. He has also bowled the Sudoku ball at the International level. He was also the fourth cricketer to be awarded the “Man of the match” on debut.
