The famous American actress Hannah Dakota Fanning, better known for her stunning role as Jane in The Twilight Saga: New Moon was born on 23rd February, 1994. Dakota Fanning was born in Conyers, Georgia, USA. Her father, Joe Fanning was a professional tennis player and her mother, Steve J. Fanning played minor league baseball, but now she works as an electronics salesman in Los Angeles. She has a younger sister, Elle Fanning, who is also an actress. Dakota has both German and Irish ancestry. Dakota learned to play violin and is also a member of Red Cross and the Girl Scouts USA.
Dakota began her acting career at the age of five, in 1999. Her first significant acting job was in the NBC prime time drama ER, which is one of her most favorite roles. She played the role of an accident victim, for which she had to act with neck braces and nose tubes during shoot. She also had many the guest roles in many TV serials, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Practice and Spin City. She moved with her family to Los Angeles permanently as Dakota’s acting career looked good. Then she acted in the movie “Tomcats” in 2001. She also acted in a small project called “Father Xmas”. She acted in the movie “I Am Sam”, opposite Sean Penn, which was brought her great success to her acting career. Her role in this movie made Dakota, the youngest person to be nominated for Screen Actors Guild Award, at the age of seven, in 2001. In 2002, she played the role of Abby Jennings in “Trapped” with Charlize Theron. The she also acted in the younger version of Reese Witherspoon in 2002’s “Sweet Home Alabama”. She also played a huge role in “Taken”, a mini TV series which was very challenging for her. Dakota then acted in “Hansel & Gretel”, a children’s movie.
Dakota had many exciting projects in 2003, proving to be a lucky year for her. She acted as Sally Walden in Dr Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat along with Mike Myers. She was also a part of the sweet comedy movie “Uptown Girls”. She also voiced preschool Kim in Kim Possible a Sitch in Time. Dakota then appeared in a violent thriller “Man on Fire” in 2004, which brought her good reviews.
Again 2005, proved to be an excellent year for Dakota as she had many projects which kept her busy throughout the year. She played the role of Maria in “Nine Leaves”. Then she acted in “Hide and Seek” against Robert De Niro. She was considered as the busiest child actress in Hollywood, with a resume to die for. By then her younger sister Mary Elle Fanning also came up with her acting career. The next movie which made Dakota popular was “War of the Worlds” in which she acted as the daughter of Hollywood actor Tom Cruise. She also voiced Lilo in “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch” the same year.
In 2006, Dakota acted in the movie “Hounddog” for which her parents were criticized more for her acting in the film. At the age of 12, she joined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She was the youngest member in the Academy’s history. Her income also increased to $4 million which took her to the fourth place in Forbes Magazine’s top-earning stars aged under 21. She was then part of the movie “Fragments-Winged Creatures” and “Cutlass” in 2007. She also acted in “Push”, in the role of Cassie Holmes, a 13year old psychic.
Dakota then acted in “The Secret Life of Bees” in 2008. She was ranked number 19 with her sister Elle Fanning on “Entertainment Weekly” magazine’s “30 Under 30” actress list in 2008 and was also ranked number 4 in the “25 Hottest Actors under 25”.
Then in 2009 she became a part of the Twilight series. She played the role of Jane, a member of the volturi guard in New Moon and Eclipse. In 2010 she acted in many movies which brought her more credit. She played the role of Cherie Currie in the movie “The Runaways” with Kristen Stewart. She then acted in the Twilight Breaking Dawn movie as Jane. She then took a break in December 2010 from acting in leading roles until she finishes her high school in 2011. She has signed for upcoming projects like “Girls’ Night out “and “The Motel Life”.
During the summer of 2011 Dakota played the role of Tessa in the movie “Now is Good”. She was also found in Marc Jacobs Oh Lola! Perfume campaign. This advertisement was banned in UK as they told that this ad might be seen to sexualize the child. In 2011 she played the role of Annie James in the movie “The Motel Life” which was planned to be released in the mid of 2012. In the end of 2011 she played a starring role in the movie directed by Richard Laxton. She shared the screen in this movie along with Emma Thompson, Greg Wise, Tom Sturridge, Robbie Coltrane, Julie Walters, Derek Jacobi and Claudia Cardinale.
In August 2012 she signed a thriller mover “Night Moves”. In this movie she signed to play the role of a wealthy financial eco – terrorist, Dena Brauer, who finances a plan. In this movie her opposite actors were Jesse Eisenberg and Peter Sarsgaard. The movie will be directed by Kelly Reichardt. The story is all about three eco – terrorists who work at an organic farm and they plan to blow up a hydro electric dam. The movie is planned to be released in the mid of 2013.
She graduated with honors from North Hollywood’s Campbell Hall Episcopal High School on June 6th, 2011.She was a cheerleader and was voted homecoming queen in high school. Dakota Fanning joined the New York University to start her degree course in June 2011. In January 2012 it was told that she signed to be a represented by WME (William Morris Endeavour). In this way she ended a 10 plus year relationship with Osbrink Talent Agency.
